Well, it’s true to say that TikTok changed everything. Why? Because now the best practice is to follow the trends.
Let me explain this. Years and years ago, when Twitter was brand new, hashtags changed the way we communicate on social media.
For a couple of years, everything was about hashtags. Remember that ads on the street had hashtags? There were even hashtags on the news, and everyone wanted to be on Twitter.
A trending hashtag had a life of between 24 and 48 hours, and Twitter was the place to be for the brands and for the consumers.
Then Snapchat tried to change the landscape, but Instagram did better with its Stories feature. And yet something was still missing, until TikTok came to life.
In a pandemic world, TikTok is the place to be. Mostly because the TikTok algorithm lets almost everyone have a big number of followers in a few days.
But, what’s the secret to gain around 1000 followers in only a few days? It can be done by just following trends.
Hashtags are still important on Twitter and Instagram, but right now people are talking about trends—and and that is TikTok’s area of expertise
This post won’t talk about the algorithms of these social media platforms, but I will just say this:
TikTok’s algorithm follows the trends. Why? Because if a trend appears, the algorithm knows that there is an audience for that trend.
The trend could be a dance, a joke, a sound, a piece of music or something you must do.
So if you discover a trend and you make a video about it, TikTok’s algorithm will show it to an audience that likes that trend.
If years ago we followed a hashtag to gain followers on Twitter, right now we follow trends on TikTok.
Why am I saying all this? Because even though everything changes fast, there are a few things that will not change, and I want to focus on those.
The goal for a brand or a business is to show their products to an audience and to create a community around your brand or business.

Like I mentioned before, trends will change almost every day, but your social media strategy can still be optimized regularly.
A good social media strategy can help you go through these changes without taking on risk, and on the contrary, can get good results for your business or brand.

Define your goals
It can sound repetitive, but if you don’t have clear goals it is impossible to get good results. If you can’t measure your progress, you will not progress.

I know that every time I write a post about social media strategies, I write about goals, but you have to be clear about them at the beginning of every social media strategy.

Know your target audience
At the beginning of this post I mentioned trends, and that now everything is about trends on social media.
Right now it is important for you to know your target audience, because you need to know if your audience likes or dislikes the current trend.
For example, there might be a new trend on TikTok, and so you spend one hour shooting and editing a video that follows that trend, but you don’t get any views for it.
To avoid this, you need to know your audience. You need to learn who they are and where they are.
You will save a lot of time if you know your audience, because the content you make will be targeted for the audience that will react to it.
And you need a reaction from your audience, whether that reaction includes them reading all your content, sharing your content, or leaving a comment, etc.

Focus on one social media platform at the beginning of your blogging journey
I know, there are a lot of social media platforms on the internet. It is overwhelming.
The best practice is for you to choose the right platform to achieve your goals.
For example, right now I am focusing on Pinterest; it is the perfect platform to deliver traffic to my blog.
So right now, I am focusing all my efforts on creating good quality content for Pinterest.
But if you are looking for more reach, the ideal platform could be Instagram or TikTok.
And if you have money to spend, target Facebook. That platform has almost no organic reach.
Of these social media strategy tips this is the one I have to repeat myself daily.
Why should you choose one social media platform at the beginning?
Perhaps it is time consuming to create good quality content and it’s best to post high quality work on one site, than mediocre content on lots of different platforms.
Let’s take Instagram as an example. Right now, Instagram Reels has good organic reach because of the competition with TikTok.
To make a good Instagram Reel, you have to follow these steps:
- Record a video
- Edit the video
- Write the captions on a notepad
- Write good copy for the reel
- Find the right hashtags (30)
- Upload the reel
It takes time to record a 15-second video and even more time to edit it.
If you want to gain followers using Instagram Reels, you have to upload a reel every day, because that is what the Instagram algorithm likes.
As you can see, creating good quality content is time consuming.
You might say you can use the reel for TikTok.
But my recommendation would be that you don’t. TikTok has a different algorithm and is a completely different platform with a different audience.
For that reason, it is important to know your audience.
You can try it. If you want to be on TikTok, my recommendation is that you do short videos from 7 to 11 seconds. The videos have to be easy to watch—what I mean is that your audience has to watch 100% of the video. If you do that, the algorithm will be in your favor. And you have to upload at least 4 videos per day.
Again, creating good quality content for social media platforms is time consuming.
Choose one platform and master it. Then you can open an account on a different platform. I think this is the best social media strategy tips that I can give you now.
Set up a Social Media Calendar
Once you choose a social media platform, you have to set up a calendar for your content.
You have to choose the best days and hours to post so your content gets a good organic reach.
I know that choosing the right time is not easy at the beginning.
When I first became a community manager, I was guessing at the best time to post, and after trying various days and times, I started to know when to post for my brands.
What I want to say is that the only way to have a good social media calendar is to try different hours, different days, and different formats (photo, videos) to know what your audience wants.
And that brings me to the next social media strategy tip:
Once you have a social media calendar, the next step is to be consistent. Trust me, this is the key to doing well on social media.
For example, if you post a reel every Monday at 10:00 a.m. on Instagram, its algorithm knows to look for an audience for that content on that day and at that specific time.
When you are consistent with your content, you “train” the algorithm of any social media network to work in your favor.
One thing I can tell you is that TikTok’s algorithm loves it when you upload four to six videos per day. Instagram loves it when you upload one reel per day or three per day.
These social media strategy tips will help you with your business or brands, but if I have to choose one tip, I would say be consistent.
I have seen many bloggers be inconsistent with their blog posts. If you are a beginner blogger, the key is to be consistent.
I know that there are weeks where it is harder to write a post than others, but if you want to be a professional blogger you have to write at least one blog post per week.
You have to remember that Google uses an algorithm as well. You have to train that algorithm too.
Be consistent and you will see how the algorithm will work in your favor.
